Winter travel in Ontario is a planning exercise, not a driving exercise. Between October and April, weather, road conditions and reduced daylight all compress the margin for an on-time Toronto Pearson departure.
The first rule is honest pickup timing. In summer, a Peterborough-to-YYZ ride is a predictable two hours. In February, the same route can take three — and you still need to check in. Book earlier than you think you need to.
The second is route awareness. Ontario 511 (see the link at the end) is the authoritative source for closures on the 401, 407, 115, 35 and the rest of the provincial network. Our dispatch monitors it live for every winter trip.
The third is realistic expectations at the airport. Winter storms cause de-icing lines and gate holds. Building a buffer between kerbside drop-off and boarding is not conservative — it is normal.
We include weather margin automatically on every winter Ontario booking. If a storm is forecast, you'll hear from us before you have to ask.
